Drums United with Misirli Ahmed

April 27 and 28 Two Drums United concerts in a row! Lucas invited a guest, Misirli Ahmed from Instanbul, Turkey. This man is a true master on darbuka, a percussion instrument from the Middle East, mainly Egypt, but also this instrument is used as widely as from Turkey to Iran. Anyway the tecniques this man uses on this instrument is like magic! It’s not often that one sees this speed and still the groove stays, but Misirli Ahmed has it all! I could advise you to check this YouTube fragment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqb2cySEpZk Of course combined with the other great musicians in Drums United, it turned out to be a mind blowing concert on both evenings. On Friday Niti Ranjan Biswas was representing the Eastern instruments and on Saturday Afra Mussawisade took on the stage. It was hard work, but worth every minute hanging out with the guys again. There’s always lots of humor and excellent craftsmanship. What more could you wish for, especially when you have your camera ready to capture the moment… April 27 and 28 Two Drums United concerts in a row! Seminar in Belgium

24th April 2012 Audio seminar Belgium It was kind of early, around 8:00 when my partner in crime for almost 30 years, Alex Buurman picked me up to go to Amptec in Belgium, a distributor for several studio and audio equipment. They organized an open day with presentations and masterclasses from well known and respected people in the studio and audio field from around the globe. The one masterclass that impressed me and gave me a lot of input and expanding views on using processing equipment in the studio was with George Massenburg. He’s a sound engineer, producer, developer of the famous GML compressors en equalizers. Also he designed several studios etc. If you want some more information about him, you’ll find him on google. On the way back Alex and me were full of new ideas, just amazing how inspiring a day like this can be for a creative mind… These kind of of days out are highly reccomendable! I’ll keep you posted on all the developements that Robtix Communications is involved with. Just check my site regulary. 🙂 24th April 2012 Audio seminar Belgium It was kind of early, around 8:00 when my partner in crime for almost 30 years, Alex Buurman picked me up to go to Amptec in Belgium, a distributor for several studio and audio equipment. Drums United

Saturday 21st April It’s been a while since I joined Drums United as a stage tech for a concert in the Netherlands. Due to tax raises and funding cuts in the theatres, the budget for these kind of productions became minimal, so Tam Tam productions had to find other ways to have the stage built. In the other European countries I’m still the one to do the job, in Holland they are forced to use interns to do it. Well now there was no one available, so I was called in again. I must say I really missed the “family”. It was really nice hanging out with the guys again. Off course building the stage and breaking it down after the show is no ride in the park. It’s hard work, but worth it as the show always stands for quality and the audience just loves it. It was also nice driving there with my friend and sountech Bulu who is also a great percussionist. We had a lot to talk and laugh about. Of course you are always home late, as for me I was home at 1:30 at night with a tired, but fullfilling feeling. So good to be in the music scene in different disciplines and people from all over the world. I feel blessed… During the show I have plenty of time to take photo’s and also I have the privelage to go backstage and take pictures from behond the stage, this can result in some exclusive pics. In the near future there will be a lot of pictures displayed on my shop:robtix@sjootz.nl. Feel free... Lees meer

Preparations for van Emmerloot clinic tour

Tuesday 17th April I had the day off from work to have a lesson with Juan and a meeting afterwards. We formed a team of four people to set up a clinic tour in which Juan will do the clinic. Also some new drumcases were delivered as an endorsement for Juan. It’s amazing what one can achieve by being professional about everything and still keep a positive, friendly and sincere spirit. You will find out lots more about this concept as we are working hard on the preparations. Thursday 19 April I went with Juan to sign an endorsement contract for Audio Technica microphones, good stuff!!! So we’re really on a roll now! Seems like many things come toghether… I just love this kind of energy that we have going now. It’s all about music but not only performing, the whole shabang around it is just as important and fun to do! The power of Three tour Italy

April 4th 2012: After a (feel)good movie with Carol Wednesday night, I had to get up at 3:00 in the morning to catch my flight to Napoli where I was to meet up with Juan van Emmerloot (www.drummingsecrets.com) who’s doing The power of Three tour with Stef Burns (www.stefburns.com) and Billy Sheehan (www.billysheehan.com) through Italy. The travel went smooth, everything on time, no problems. From Napoli airport I took a taxi to the hotel where the band and I were to meet later that day as their gig is in Goodfellas. I had lots of time to explore the city, so I took the cable train down to the city centre only to be amazed by the contradictions in this place! I officially declare Napoli the city where one can expect the unexpected. For instance standing on a four way corner, look to your left, you’ll see a beautiful wide lane with well taken care of buildings and trees, then look to your right and you’ll see a small steep alley with washing hanging out on the balconies, garbage on every corner etc. This place has only one rule, there are no rules! Hardly any traffic light works although there are plenty… I took a walk through the alley’s and found the most interesting little shops, like musical instruments, shops full of instruments in one alley for about 200 metres! Go around the corner, you see a shop with the most variety of pasta’s in all colours, shapes and sizes. I I wouldn’t recommend this place to people who are suffering from claustrofobia. I enjoyed myself I must say.... Lees meer

South side Blues Revue

31st March, I’ve been asked to capture a gig on my camera of a long time friend, my first drumteacher from about 30 years ago. This is his new band called South side Blues Revue. This actually also was the first time I’ve seen Ruud play live!! So for me it was business and pleasure at the same time, what a great life I have!!! The venue was an indoor festival taking place in Boskoop, Netherlands. Actually, normally a whole night of blues doesn’t really become me, but these guys kept my attention through the whole gig. As this was their first major gig in this setting I feel that they have a lot of potential! It was most entertaining seeing these guys doing their thing on stage. The next post will be about the Power of Three tour with Stef Burns, Billy Sheehan and Juan van Emmerloot, also a good friend, excellent drummer and my teacher nowadays. 🙂 No more guesses about my main instrument I suppose… Hope to see you on my next post!
